DYKES, JOHN BACCHUS (1823-1876)

John Bacchus Dykes graduated from Cambridge University in 1847 and subsequently served as curate and vicar in Anglican churches in Yorkshire and Durham. Dykes composed music for more than three hundred hymns and in recognition of his contributions to music, Durham University awarded him with a Doctorate of Music in 1861.
