LOWRY, ROBERT WADSWORTH (1826-1899) Robert Lowry, son of Crozier Lowry, was born at Philadelphia, PA on 12 March 1826. He was educated at Lewisburg University and ordained as a Baptist minister. He pastored churches in West Chester, PA, New York City, and Brooklyn, NY. In 1876 he became a professor of rhetoric at Lewisburg University. He later pastored a church in New Jersey. It has often been said that the quality of Lowry’s numerous publications did much to improve the cause of sacred music in this country. See: Robert Wadsworth Lowry.
