WHITFIELD, FREDERICK (1829-1904)

Frederick Whitfield was the son of H. Whitfield. He was born at Threapwood, Shropshire, England on 7 January 1829. He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin, where he received his B.A. in 1859. After being ordained by the Anglican church, he was successively curate of Otley, vicar of Kirby Ravensworth, senior curate of Greenwich, and vicar of St. John's Bexley. In 1875 he was elevated to St. Mary's, Hastings. He is credited with more than thirty books of religious verse.
