2 Samuel
14:14
14 For we must needs die, and are as water spilt on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again;
neither doth God respect any person: yet doth he devise means, that his banished be not expelled
from him.
1 Chronicles 29:15
15 For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as were all our fathers: our days on the earth
are as a shadow, and there is none abiding.
Job 4:19-21
19 How much less in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which are
crushed before the moth?
20 They are destroyed from morning to evening: they perish for ever without any regarding it.
21 Doth not their excellency which is in them go away? they die, even without wisdom.
Job 7:1-10
1 Is there not an appointed time to man upon earth? are not his days also like the days of an
hireling?
2 As a servant earnestly desireth the shadow, and as an hireling looketh for the reward of his
work:
3 So am I made to possess months of vanity, and wearisome nights are appointed to me.
4 When I lie down, I say, When shall I arise, and the night be gone? and I am full of tossings to
and fro unto the dawning of the day.
5 My flesh is clothed with worms and clods of dust; my skin is broken, and become loathsome.
6 My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, and are spent without hope.
7 O remember that my life is wind: mine eye shall no more see good.
8 The eye of him that hath seen me shall see me no more: thine eyes are upon me, and I am
not.
9 As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no
more.
10 He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more.
Job 8:9
9 (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:)
Job 9:25-26
25 Now my days are swifter than a post: they flee away, they see no good.
26 They are passed away as the swift ships: as the eagle that hasteth to the prey.
Job 10:9
9 Remember, I beseech thee, that thou hast made me as the clay; and wilt thou bring me into dust
again?
Job 10:20-21
20 Are not my days few? cease then, and let me alone, that I may take comfort a little,
21 Before I go whence I shall not return, even to the land of darkness and the shadow of
death;
Job 14:1-14
1 Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.
2 He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth
not.
3 And dost thou open thine eyes upon such an one, and bringest me into judgment with thee?
4 Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.
5 Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his
bounds that he cannot pass;
6 Turn from him, that he may rest, till he shall accomplish, as an hireling, his day.
7 For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender
branch thereof will not cease.
8 Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground;
9 Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.
10 But man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he?
11 As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decayeth and drieth up:
12 So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be
raised out of their sleep.
13 O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be
past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me!
14 If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change
come.
Job 16:22
22 When a few years are come, then I shall go the way whence I shall not return.
Job 21:21
21 For what pleasure hath he in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off in
the midst?
Psalm 22:29
29 All they that be fat upon earth shall eat and worship: all they that go down to the dust shall
bow before him: and none can keep alive his own soul.
Psalm 37:2
2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.
Psalm 39:4-6
4 LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail
I am.
5 Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily
every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.
6 Surely every man walketh in a vain shew: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up
riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them.
Psalm 39:11
11 When thou with rebukes dost correct man for iniquity, thou makest his beauty to consume away
like a moth: surely every man is vanity. Selah.
Psalm 78:39
39 For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not
again.
Psalm 89:47-48
47 Remember how short my time is: wherefore hast thou made all men in vain?
48 What man is he that liveth, and shall not see death? shall he deliver his soul from the hand of
the grave? Selah.
Psalm 90:3-6
3 Thou turnest man to destruction; and sayest, Return, ye children of men.
4 For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the
night.
5 Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass
which groweth up.
6 In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down, and
withereth.
Psalm 90:10-12
10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be
fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly
away.
11 Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath.
12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
Psalm 102:11
11 My days are like a shadow that declineth; and I am withered like grass.
Psalm 103:14-16
14 For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.
15 As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.
16 For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.
Psalm 144:4
4 Man is like to vanity: his days are as a shadow that passeth away.
Psalm 146:4
4 His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.

1 Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
Ecclesiastes 1:4
4 One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.
Ecclesiastes 3:2
2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is
planted;
Ecclesiastes 3:19-22
19 For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth
beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one
breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.
20 All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.
21 Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward
to the earth?
22 Wherefore I perceive that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his own
works; for that is his portion: for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?
Ecclesiastes 6:12
12 For who knoweth what is good for man in this life, all the days of his vain life which he
spendeth as a shadow? for who can tell a man what shall be after him under the sun?
Ecclesiastes 9:3-12
3 This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event unto all:
yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they
live, and after that they go to the dead.
4 For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead
lion.
5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any
more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
6 Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a
portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.
7 Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God now accepteth
thy works.
8 Let thy garments be always white; and let thy head lack no ointment.
9 Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he
hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life,
and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.
10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor
knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.
11 I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the
strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to
men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
12 For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds
that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth
suddenly upon them.
Isaiah 38:12
12 Mine age is departed, and is removed from me as a shepherd’s tent: I have cut off like a
weaver my life: he will cut me off with pining sickness: from day even to night wilt thou make an
end of me.
Isaiah 40:6-8
6 The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness
thereof is as the flower of the field:
7 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely
the people is grass.
8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
Isaiah 64:6
6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do
fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
Luke 12:20
20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of
thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
Ephesians 5:15-17
15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
Hebrews 9:27
27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
James 1:10-11
10 But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass
away.
11 For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower
thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away
in his ways.
James 4:14-15
14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour,
that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
1 Peter 1:24
24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth,
and the flower thereof falleth away:
